Editor and various reviewers
the author, Dr Goldstein , has
now retired, his book 'Betrayal Of The Brain
', still lives on.
book intrigued me [the Sleepydust Editor] because
it's had such conflicting reviews. Where two Amazon
reviewers said it was "a waste of money",
most reviewers had nothing but glowing reports
was these amazing reviews that made me stop and take
these raving reviews, I did notice that many reviewers
said that it was rather complicated to understand.
fact, many reviewers suggested that its 'companion'
book might be easier to understand,
because it was written for people who are not
here to read more about the 'companion' book...
Amazon reviewer said that Dr Goldstein's approach
helped him to gain full recovery...
Goldstein's treatment approach was very effective
was housebound and often bedridden
for 15 years with severe Chronic Fatigue
tried many treatment approaches but nothing had
any beneficial effect.
began working with Dr. Goldstein in 2001, following
the experimental drug protocol set forth in this
was on the meds he prescribed for 3 years. During
that time, I gradually recovered.
am now off the meds, working fulltime,
and living a normal life.
know this approach does not work for everyone,
but it has worked for many people with
CFS, and I would recommend giving it
Goldstein's hypothesis is that CFS is
the result of a malfunction of the nervous system
in which the neurons are over-responsive to stimuli.
smells, bright lights, stress, etc. all
over-stimulate the over-reactive nervous system,
causing fatigue and adrenal
is certainly consistent with my own experience
of the illness. ”

is an absolutely wonderful book
whose author, a doctor that specializes in neuropharmacology,
has a view of these diseases that really
makes sense to me!
If you are willing to wade through the medical
jargon, it is well-worth it.
[Sleepydust Editor's side note:
can try this book's 'companion' which was written
in more simple terms, so that people
who are not medically trained
can also understand Dr Goldstein's protocol.

percent of his patients with FMS and/or
CFIDS feel dramatically better shortly
after their first office visit with him.
percent more feel better after the second visit,
and twenty percent more feel better after a while.
only about five percent of his patients
end up not being particularly helped by his methods.
a sidenote, if you don't want to take any sort
of pharmacological drugs, this
may not be the treatment for you. Among other
things, Goldstein uses drugs that have been approved
for other conditions to treat FMS & CFIDS."

book that will become
a definitive guide for this illness!
Although the book is difficult reading
(and reading is not easy for us with
this disorder due to cognitive problems), his
results are spectacular and he
has probably defined a new class of disease: neurosomatic
disorders, for which some experts feel he deserves
a Nobel Prize.
suggest the companion
book to help clarify his methods.

life is certainly different from the pain
racked, bedridden one it was before I
unpopular and unconventional ideas are widely
misunderstood and we patients suffer
unecessarily with clumsy symptom control efforts
of the uninformed medical establishment.
doctor I see I give a copy of this book and many
have said what a valuable work it is, albeit difficult
to comprehend first time through.
Dr. Goldstein is years ahead of his time! In my
opinion this book will become a classic."

the etiology, diagnosis, of CFS and FMS.
I have read Dr. Goldstein's book twice, six
months apart, and if I read it again, will probably
glean even more from it.
book is excellent, well- written,
but not especially for the lay person.
