“Different
strokes for different folks”
It
can be
soul destroying and demoralising to have
bad experiences with psychotherapists, counsellors
and so forth.
After
all - they are dealing with your innermost
thoughts, so a bad experience
with a psychotherapist can really put you
off.
But
I urge you not to close that door.
Finding
The Right Therapist Means Finding The
Right Person
Psychotherapists,
counsellors, psychiatrists and all other
therapists who offer ‘talking’
treatments are all people
– just like you and me.
And
what's more, some people are better at their
jobs than others.
And
different people get on with different people
– 'different strokes for different
folks', right?
So
remember...
...just
because you may have had bad experiences
with a psychotherapist or counsellor does
not mean that therapy is not for
you.
On
the contrary – it just means that
you haven’t found the right therapist
yet.
Think
about it...
...you’re
dealing with your inner most thoughts here.
Your most precious feelings. The right therapist
– the right person
to help you is hardly going
to fall into your lap!
You've
got to find the right person
- the right therapist...
The
right person who you feel comfortable
with, and who will guide you through
the dark alley ways of your mind - where
you dare not to venture on your own.
If
you do find the right therapist
first time around, then you’re lucky!
But
the fact is, that many sufferers
have to meet many therapists before they
find one that they feel comfortable with.
Unfortunately,
many give up before they find them.
So,
please don’t be put off!

You'll
Know When The Therapist Is Right For You
When
I (sleepydust
editor and long time CFS sufferer) suffered
from depression a few years back, I had
to go through a fair few therapists myself,
until I found the right one!
But
it was well worth the search!
Many
can usually tell in their first session
or so, whether they ‘click’
with the therapist or not.
If
you don’t feel comfortable with them
then don’t waste your (or their) time.
Just ask for a referral or look elsewhere.
But
please don’t just give up on therapy
altogether!
If
you shut yourself off from the option of
psychotherapy, it could well be the biggest
negative life-changing decision you ever
make.
I
don’t write this to scare you or to
cause drama. I write this because I know
how big a change it can
make...
...it
can make the world of difference.
And
I am living proof.

Never
Stop Searching For The Right Psychotherapist
If
you persevere, you will
find the right therapist for you eventually,
and they will help you to change your life
– just by helping you to change your
perspective...
... by helping you to learn a different,
more positive way of seeing things.
Isn’t
that worth not giving up on finding
the right therapist?
I've
found
a great online counselling service
