Stress Management
The Importance Of Keeping Your Stress Levels Down...
Stress can make your symptoms much worse. So stress management
can play a crucial part in your management of ME/CFS...
Please note: Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis,
and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are believed to fall under the umbrella
term 'ME/CFS'. To make it easier for you to read through this page,
Sleepydust will use the term 'ME/CFS' to
refer to them collectively. But it's worth bearing in mind
that each of these separate terms have overlapping but different
definitions.
Stress = bad. We've all heard it before. So much so, that many
people just 'switch off' when they're advised to relax more, and
to try not to 'stress out'. It can't be that important
can it?
Well when it comes to ME/CFS, stress management can be very important
indeed.
Why?
Because stress (the bad type - dis-stress) can
dramatically worsen your symptoms. It can be a big culprit
for causing a flare in symptoms, and possibly even relapses. So
stress-relief and relaxation really is important for managing your
ME/CFS.
Stress Management Isn't A Cure But...
Stress management isn't a 'cure' by any means
(if only ME/CFS could be cured by simple lifestyle changes!) But
it's important to bear in mind that stress can be a major
culprit when it comes to aggravating symptoms, causing a
flare of symptoms, and even relapse. So understanding how
stress can affect you and the things you can do to minimize your
stress, is paramount.
