Judith, Fibromyalgia / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Sufferer
I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (what they call it in the U.S) and Fibromyalgia about 11 years ago, but I know I've had it much longer than that. I was also diagnosed about the same time with Bipolar Disorder (BPD). Interestingly enough, research has shown that the two could be connected, which I had long suspected. I have met many women with both / all of these conditions.
I hope the U.S. will change the name and begin to call 'Chronic Fatigue Syndrome', Myalgic Encephalomyelitis instead.
I had a bad experience with one rheumatologist who ridiculed me and was very rude to me. I filed a complaint about him with the Medical Examiner's Board and he was made aware that he cannot treat patients badly. I never went back to him. I found out that this doctor did this to everyone and has even made men cry. He still behaves the same. Thankfully, I now depend on the excellent doctors at my clinic.
I am very stable at the present time. Ever since I was diagnosed I've been taking Plaquenil and Sulfasalazine for Fibromyalgia / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. One of my problems is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and I am still hoping I can rid myself of that awful problem. I take a mood stabilizer and an anti-depressant for the Bipolar Disorder, as well. Recently, I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, which I take medication for every morning when I get up. I must wait an hour before I can have coffee or breakfast. No problems, and my energy is returning. :-)
The biggest, most important development for me, is that I have started taking the newly approved (by the FDA) drug for Fibromyalgia, called LYRICA. I am feeling even better since starting it. This is wonderful! I would recommend Lyrica to anyone!! I have no side effects at all. I realize that not everyone can take it, but at least give it a try if you can.
I now see a whole new life ahead of me.
