Recurring Mono - Is It Possible To Get Mononucleosis Twice ?
Can you really get mononucleosis twice? Find
out about recurring mononucleosis and if it's possible to get mononucleosis
for a second time below...
Recurring mononucleosis - does it happen?
Hmnnn...
... well in my research into mononucleosis , I've read rather
vague statements about whether you can get mononucleosis for a second
time (recurring mononucleosis ) or not. But this is my conclusion...
Generally, most people only ever get mononucleosis once
(i.e. mononucleosis recurrence does not happen generally).
But!!!
In some people, the mononucleosis virus can 'reactivate'
now and again.
However the good news is that when recurring mononucleosis occurs,
it's usually without symptoms. But...
...since the research I found used the word 'usually', I presume
that in some cases, it is possible (albeit uncommon) for
the recurring mononucleosis to occur with symptoms too.
Thankfully, getting mononucleosis for a second time is apparently
very rare. And apparently your mono relapse usually means that you've
actually developed a 'mono-like' syndrome (instead of experiencing
an actual mono relapse) produced by something like:
- cytomegalovirus (CMV)
- toxoplasmosis (toxo)
- enteroviruses (e.g. coxsackie virus)
- or even strep infections (e.g. strep throat )
So can you get mononucleosis twice ?
Bottom line?
Getting mononucleosis for a second time is very unusual.
But recurring mononucleosis can happen. In most cases
mononucleosis recurrence occurs without symptoms. But in
rare cases it seems that it is possible to have a mono
relapse where you experience symptoms of mononucleosis again. In
fact, I have received a couple of emails from sufferers who have
apparently experienced mononucleosis more than once.
It's worth noting though that over 90% of people are immune against
the Epstein Barr Virus [ref
2]. And the Epstein Barr Virus is the main cause of infectious
mononucleosis. So if you're immune against the Epstein Barr Virus
, then you're immune against mononucleosis too.

A top-notch meditation program is giving away free meditation
demo CDs. According to Bill Harris, in Mind Chatter, a University
of Wisconsin-Madison study discovered that meditation boosts
brain function and the immune system. And the National
Institutes of Health reports that regular meditation
reduces chronic pain, and stress hormone production.
So it’s definitely worth looking into!
