Fibromyalgia Itching & Back Itch
Fibromyalgia Itching & Scratching
Fibromyalgia itching; including scratching, skin complaints, back
itch.
If you suffer from Fibromyalgia, itching and scratching may be
a common skin complaint for you.
Find out more below...
Do you have Fibromyalgia? Do you find yourself scratching all the
time? Do you have dry, itchy skin? Have you developed itchy skin
rashes? Maybe you have back itch? Or itching ears? Or maybe you
sometimes even feel that horrible itching sensation all over - as
if there are ants crawling all over your body...
Itching is just one of a number of skin complaints that Fibromyalgia
sufferers can suffer from. And it's apparently one of the most
common skin problems among Fibromyalgia sufferers.
Not only can itching be uncomfortable but it can
also prevent you from getting the sleep you need
at night. And sleep is especially important when you have Fibromyalgia
because that's when your body heals and repairs itself. And as a
Fibromyalgia sufferer, you've probably become increasingly aware
that lack of good quality sleep can increase your
pain and fatigue.
But Why On
Earth Is Itching Such A Problem When You Have Fibromyalgia?
Well apparently, the medical profession aren't quite sure! But
something they do know, is why this type of itching
occurs...
You see, it's got to do with how your body interprets your
pain signals and it's otherwise known as a sensory itch.
The receptors in the outer layer of your skin are responsible for
translating the amount of pressure it receives. These pressures
can be translated into pain, for example. But when these receptors
come across an unfamiliar pressure, they revert to the 'default
signal'. And what's the default signal?
Itching!
"It's my theory that due to the dysregulation of neurotransmitters
in FMS and/or the mechanical constriction of fluids around the
Merkel's discs, we itch a lot more than most folks. Sometimes
it is enough to drive us to distraction, and disrupt our meager
amounts of sleep."

Allergists/ENTs Should Know about FMS/MPS --
But What Can You Do To Ease This Itching, As A Fibromyalgia Sufferer?
Well first and foremost, talk to your doctor. They may be able
to help with a treatment or prescription drug.
Other tips I've come across in my research to relieve itching or
scratching include:
- Cold packs. Cold apparently numbs the receptors that
translate the pressure signals into an itch.
- Moisturize your skin well. Dry skin will make your itching
worse.
