Fiona Agombar - Beat Fatigue With Yoga
Book Review
Fiona Agombar's book 'Beat Fatigue With Yoga' may be helpful for
ME / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sufferers.
Please note: Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis,
and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are believed to fall under the umbrella
term 'ME/CFS'. To make it easier for you
to read through this page, Sleepydust will use the term 'ME/CFS'
to refer to them collectively.
Here's my review about this yoga book ...
One thing I noticed when I first started researching ME/CFS &
Fibromyalgia treatments was the amount of times that yoga
came up...
Yoga is a great relaxation technique to reduce fatigue and regain
energy. And it seems to often be recommended to those ME/CFS sufferers
out there who can manage some light exercise.
I stress the word *can* because some ME/CFS sufferers
cannot exercise at all - or just don't react well to exercise
- light or otherwise. For example, at the time of writing this,
and as a ME/CFS sufferer myself, my body generally reacts badly
to exercise. But...
...now and again, when I have the strength and feel up to it (albeit
extremely rarely) I have tried very gentle yoga stretches
for a few minutes. The very light
and gentle yoga stretches do make me feel a lot better.
And if I did not usually react so badly to exercise, I would definitely
try practising light yoga stretches a lot more.
The first book I bought about yoga was Beat Fatigue With Yoga
by Fiona Agombar .
Beat Fatigue With Yoga by Fiona Agombar is a book with
a difference because it's geared towards people who experience
severe fatigue or have ME/CFS. And in the new edition,
I understand that there is even a chapter dedicated to ME/CFS
(I have the old edition of Fiona Agombar 's Beat Fatigue With
Yoga so I haven't had the chance to read that chapter).
If you're new to yoga, you have ME/CFS and you’re looking
for an easy yoga routine to get started with, then you might consider
trying some of the postures in Fiona Agombar's Beat Fatigue
With Yoga. As I mentioned above, Beat Fatigue With Yoga
is written for people with ME/CFS.
So it gives you information that is relevant to your condition and
explains how to reduce fatigue and increase your energy
with yoga.
I have to say though that trying to do a yoga routine from a book
can be a bit impractical - it's easier to follow a video or DVD.
But I haven't found a good yoga video dedicated to ME/CFS /FM sufferers
yet and this book is a good introduction to the topic.
Update: I believe that Fiona
Agombar has now released a yoga DVD too, so this might be
something worth checking out. I haven't tried it yet, so unfortunately
I'm unable to comment.
As a starting point, Fiona Agombar 's Beat Fatigue With Yoga
is a good book for getting your bearings, for getting some
background info on yoga and for learning a number of yoga postures
that can ease your fatigue. No doubt, the new chapter on
ME/CFS (in the more recent edition) should also be very helpful
(although I have not read it myself because I have the old edition).
